A Whale of a Brotherhood

A Whale of a Brotherhood

Did you know that sperm whales sometimes sleep vertically in clustered pods of five or six? When sperm whales need a nap, they dive about 45 feet from the surface and arrange themselves into level, vertical patterns. They are believed to sleep together in pods for protection. Whales in captivity have been found to use only half their brain while sleeping, a behavior scientists think could help them avoid predators, maintain social contact, control breathing, or continue swimming.

Printing Quiz

If your printer talks about a knockout, what they really mean is:

  • Knocking someone out, such as in boxing

  • A very attractive person
  •
Removing color ink from below another to create a clearer image or text

In printing, a knockout uses the top-most object’s art only and ignores everything below the top object, creating crisper colors unaffected by potential ink mixing.
